Obituary for Violet Roberta Zeswick (Davidson)

Violet Roberta Zeswick(Davidson), beloved Wife, Mother, Nana, Aunt and Friend passed away on December 21, 2011 at the age of 89 years at home with her loving children by her side. Left to remember the rich legacy of her life is her daughter Nicoe, son David, grandchildren Jillian, Bryston, and Breanna, brother Gordon(Mary) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Violet was predeceased by her husband Steve, her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Violet was the fourth child of Lizzie Jessie and Albert Davidson. Violet was very committed to her faith and spent many years as a member of the New Westminster Evangelical Free Church. Over the years she enjoyed travelling, garage sales, playing cards, collecting memorabilia and doting on her husband and children. In 1943 Violet joined the Royal Canadian Armed Forces, Women’s Division. In December 1943, Violet was posted overseas leaving from Halifax, Nova Scotia on the RMS Mauretania. The constant motion of the ship weighed heavily on Violet’s stomach. She spoke often of the ship changing course every 5 – 6 minutes to prevent torpedoes from hitting it. Eight days after leaving Canada, the ship reached the Port of Liverpool where they were greeted by an English band who played “The Maple Leaf Forever”. This was welcome music to her ears as it reminded her of home and her heritage. One of Violet’s proudest accomplishments in life was her time served in World War II and her love of Canada was always foremost in her mind and words. Violet will be best remembered as a gracious Samaritan who always had a kind word for those who encountered her. Her guidance and unconditional love will be greatly missed.
