Obituary for William James "Bill" Quinn

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother, Bill Quinn. He died peacefully in his sleep at his home at the Jeffrey Ross Residence in Vancouver on November 25, 2012.
Bill was a courageous and loving brother who had a very turmoiled life. He was very proud and although he struggled with mental illness for many years, he always wanted to help others and appreciated the efforts of those around him.

As a child Bill was active in sports, he loved hockey, which he played until he was a teenager. Like many Canadians, Hockey Night in Canada was a favourite Saturday night tradition.

Bill became ill in his early teens and was diagnosed with Schizophrenia in his late twenties. We are so very grateful that Bill had the care and assistance of the many wonderful workers where he lived at the Jeffrey Ross Residence in Vancouver. Bill also received excellent care from the wonderful and dedicated people at the Portland Hotel Society and Pigeon Park Savings. The family wishes to thank all of the volunteers, staff, and members of the community for their dedication to their work and the love and affection they gave Bill.

Bill is survived by his 3 sisters, Kelly, Kathy, and Michelle, and his brothers, Kevin and Tom. Bill will also be missed by his nieces Catherine, Lola, and Victoria and nephews Ely, Quinn and Lukis Garrison.

Both of Bill's parents passed away in 2010. His father James Charles Quinn died on June 26, 2010 and his Mother Thelma Lily Quinn (nee Duncan) on October 25, 2010.

A memorial service will be held for Bill at the Jeffrey Ross Residence at 510 Alexander Street in Vancouver on Thursday December 6 at 10:00 am.

In Lieu of flowers we ask that donations be kindly given to the Lookout Society, and please ensure that you specify you would like the donation given to the Jeffrey Ross Building to assist with the care of all their residents.
