The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Joan Opsal can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Joan Marie Opsal

Joan passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 31, 2017. Joan was 87 years old and was predeceased by her brother, Frankie Doyle. She will be profoundly missed by her three children, Matthew, Laura and Cynthia; along with their spouses, John Mercier, and Oscar Gonzalez; her sister-in-law, Carmen Opsal; and her special little great grandchildren, Lynden, Lyla, Taylah, and Kayden who brought her such happiness in her final years.

Joan spent 7 years at Yaletown House as she managed through her Alzheimer's disease where she endeared herself to the staff with her vibrant personality. She received wonderful, kind, loving and compassionate care for which we are so very grateful.
