Obituary for Francisca ""Paquita"" Martin

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Paquita, which took place this past Friday, November 3rd, at Royal Columbian Hospital, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, one month shy of her 82nd birthday. Paquita was born Juana Julia Elena Francisca in Lima, Peru, in 1935; the youngest of five children of Valentino Zanuzzi and Ernestina Jones. She grew up in the rural areas of the Andes of Peru during the 1940s and 50s. In 1958 she married Carlos Martin, the love of her life up to her last moments. They moved to the city, Lima, to raise a family. Paquita was very close to her siblings, and to her nephews and nieces. For most of her life Paquita loved to drive, to explore and to travel, and was a great organizer; in the mid-1970s she planned and oversaw the construction of their new home in Lima. In the early 1990s she and Carlos migrated to Canada to rejoin their grown-up children. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Carlos, and their children Aldo, Gino and his wife Linda, Carlos, his wife Ayari and their daughter Elena, her sister Graciela (Chela), and nephews, nieces, relatives and friends dispersed throughout the Americas. She also leaves behind many close friends who were like family to her: Carolina, her husband Chris and their three children Sofia, Tomas, and Marcel; Juan José, his wife Kumiko and their daughter Elenita; and Jackie and Dustin, Linda’s children. Paquita was a private person, devoted to her family and to those closest to her. But those who met her remember Paquita as a gracious, lovely lady, very welcoming to anyone who entered her home –and a great cook! She passed away serenely, as was her demeanour, surrounded by her loving family, who continue to miss her dearly. Funeral services will be conducted at Kearney Funeral Services, 219 Sixth Street, New Westminster B.C. on Thursday November 9, 2017, at 11:00 am. Should you wish to view her remains and pay last respects the chapel will be open at 10:30 am. If you plan to send flower arrangements, please send them directly to the address above. Or, if you prefer, in recognition to the excellent and compassionate attention Paquita received on her final days, consider making a donation to Royal Columbian Hospital, selecting In memory of: Francisca Martin https://rchfoundation.com/donate/

In memory of: Francisca Martin
