Obituary for George Wallace Smith

George Wallace Smith
It is with sadness and shock that the family announce the death of our beloved Father, George Wallace Smith who died unexpectedly on October 15th, 2017 at his home in Chilliwack, B.C.

George was born on December 13th, 1931 in Birmingham, England, to Emily and Bob (Wallace) Smith.During the War the family, including siblings, Lillian Poole and Dorothy Bigley. relocated to Leamington Spa Warwickshire where George spent his formative years. His education was cut short due to the war and at age 15 he went to Switzerland to train in the hospitality industry. George returned to England to serve in the National Service.

George met his first wife Anne and together they had 3 daughters Susan, Sandra and Tracy. During this time George began his career in the Airline Industry. For the next 11 years he worked with European Airlines. Seven of these years were spent as a Flight Purser, four years as Chief Training Officer for BOAC in Hong Kong, Bangkok, New York and Miami.

George met his second wife and soul mate Paddie whilst they both worked in the airline industry. They immigrated to Canada in 1974. Together George and Paddie had a son Warwick, who they raised in North Vancouver.

George's Canadian Career included the following: Assistant Manager at Harrison Hot Springs Resort, Manager at The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, Terminal City Club, University Club and finally The Vancouver Club.

In retirement, George moved back to Harrison Hot Springs and enjoyed RVing, Travel, Golf, and Scrabble with Paddie. He loved walks with his beloved dogs, and his favorite hobby was wood working. George also loved sports, especially soccer, Formula One racing and boxing.

Although George took pride in his illustrious career, he was most proud of his family, including his children and his seven grandchildren Alysa, Jordan, Elliott, Alora, Kaj, Llewyn and newest addition to Warwick and Tarin, baby Maverick.

A Celebration of Life will be held for George at The Vancouver Club, 915 West Hastings Vancouver at 11am on Friday, November 24th. The family would be honoured if you can join us to commemorate his full life and share stories (as you know George loved story telling).

In Lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Covenant House (a charity close to George and Paddie's heart)

We say goodbye to George, but it gives us comfort knowing that both George and Paddie will be reunited, as Paddie passed away on September 18th, 2017.
