Obituary for Maria Edith da Cunha

Maria Edith da Cunha
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maria Edith da Cunha, lovingly referred to as Mama by many, on Saturday, November 11 at the young age of 104. She is survived by her loving children Noemie (Donald) D’Mello and Lydia Fernandes, her daughter-in-law Sally, 7 cherished grandchildren, their spouses, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Joaquim, son Antonio, son-in-law Benny, and granddaughter Joy. Mama had a rich and full life. She was the matriarch of our family – a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother who lived her life with determination, patience, and grace. She was a woman of great faith who enjoyed welcoming others into her home and preparing a meal for them. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mama’s caregivers, Rose and Delia, for the wonderful care she received over the past two years. Prayers will be offered at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2465 Crown Street in Vancouver on Monday, November 20th at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 21st at 11:00am. Her ashes will be laid to rest next to her son at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Joy Fernandes Szulc Memorial Scholarship would be greatly appreciated and can be made at stpats.bc.ca under ‘Support Us’.
