Obituary for Gabrielle Josephine "Gaye" MacKinnon (Lonergan)

Gabrielle Josephine "Gaye" MacKinnon (Lonergan)
It is with great sadness that the family of Gaye MacKinnon announce her passing on November 19, 2017 at the age of 92 in Vancouver, B.C.

Gaye was born in the Free State of Danzig on January 15, 1925, in transit to the U.K. from Russia with her mother, father and sister Margaret. The Lonergan family soon immigrated to Canada eventually settling in New Westminster, B.C., Gaye completed high school at St. Anne's Academy and trained at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver achieving her R.N. status. At her Nursing graduation a returning R.C.A.F. pilot, Joseph MacKinnon noticed her, met her, courted and eventually married her, much to the delight of the four children who followed (Kit, Tom, Hugh and Rob). Gaye always supported her husband and family. She carried herself with grace, dignity and a genuine concern and caring for those around her. Her striking beauty was matched by her humility, Catholic faith and love of family and friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father, husband Joe, daughter Kit, sister Margaret and brother Ernie.

Gaye will be lovingly remembered by sons, Tom, Hugh (Kathie) and Rob (Karen), grandchildren Scott, Sean, Ross, Ryan, Jane, Erin and Tara, and many extended family. The family would like to thank all at Sunrise Senior Living who took such wonderful care of Gaye.

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church, (33rd Ave. and Cambie St., Vancouver), on Nov. 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations in Gaye's name can be made to the Alzheimer Society of B.C., 300-828 West 8th Ave. Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1E2
