Obituary for Regina Tobias

Regina Tobias passed away on August 28, 2015, at the age of 83.

She will be loving remembered by her five children; Jozef, Terezia, Mary, Steve, and Annie along with their families.

Regina was born in Slovakia, the oldest of nine siblings. She became a teacher, married Jozef and had five children. In 1968, she moved with her family to Vancouver, B.C. and raised a family during difficult beginnings in a new country. Despite the difficulties, she reached out to Slovak immigrants struggling to start their own lives in Canada. Regina thrived in her role as an organizer in the Slovak church community, overseeing many social and cultural events, as well as starting the Saturday Slovak School. Her commitment in her work with the Legion of Mary brought her much satisfaction late in life.

A strong Catholic Faith guided our Mother in all aspects of her life. She will be lovingly remembered for her gregarious personality, a genuine smile and a giving heart. We want to thank the staff at Windermere Care Centre for their gentle and compassionate care of our Mother in the last year of her life.

Prayers will be said at 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2015, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 472 East 8th Avenue, New Westminster, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., Father Juraj Kopanicky as Celebrant. Interment to follow at Valleyview Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
